74 years ago, the largest seaborn invasion in history took place on the Normandy beaches of France.
Several years ago I visited those beaches, I had to see what my d-a-d experienced on that day. He rarely talked about what his experience was like.
As I stood there on that beach I looked up to the cliffs and wondered where on the beach he landed and what kind of German resistance he encountered as he left those landing crafts and had to make his way to the beach. I can only imagine the hell he must of encountered on that day.
I then visited the American cemetery. It was a very humbling and solemn place. As I walked among the many graves I talked with some of the visitors that were visiting that day, many of them French.
What struck me was how much they appreciated the sacrifice of these soldiers and how much they knew of what actually happened. They understand and know their history. Unlike many Americans who seem to have forgotten history.
