Star Wars

I was a "Star Wars" k1d. I was 7 when the first movie was released and it was a BIG deal for me back then. I loved "The Empire Strikes Back" too, but the ewoks kind of ruined "Return Of The Jedi" for me (but I was also a teenag3r by then too, so my interests had moved on).
When the later three Star Wars movies came out during the 1990s, I felt let down when I saw them. Mostly because I was an adult and "too old" for them anyway, but there was stuff going on in them that I thought were out of order, such as the bad guys being characterised like the Japanese and the Gungans like rural African people - the Japanese being a past enemy of the USA, and the Africanesque gungans being simple, unintelligent people? I couldn't help feeling there was maybe a hint of racisim in that.
Aside from that, I just didn't enjoy them much, but I mentioned this because I wanted to bring up JJ Abrams and the latest Star Wars movies. I still haven't seen the last two, but I loved his first one, "The **** Awakens". When I heard that George Lucas had sold the movie rights to Disney, I thought any movies they make would probably be a pile of shit, but their move to bring in JJ Abrams was evidently a stroke of genius because he did an excellent job from what I've seen so far. He brought back the "magic" of the original movie that the previous three releases so badly lacked (which is odd considering they were made by Lucas), but his style and attention to little details referencing back to the first movie made it like a nostalgic trip for me. Having three original, essential characters (being played by the original actors) from the first movie had a lot to do with that too, of course.

I still haven't seen the last one (embarrassed to say). I know she was still alive during the making of the movie up until a point, but I don't know anything more than that. Xx
