It's TIME for the Indy 500 folks!!!

Hello? The Indianapolis 500! You've heard of it RIGHT?

It's ONLY the largest single day sporting event in the world.... Its called the Greatest Spectacle in Racing and it is but really, it's the Greatest Spectacle in Drinking or it used to be.. LOL

In reality, it's nowhere NEAR what it used to be. Sure they still get well over 300,000 people there BUT back in they 'day', they used to get in excess of 400,000 and closer to 500,000 people into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

There's been a huge push to make the 500 a LOT more 'family friendly' and as part of that, they've closed down the infield so gone are the original 'Snake Pit', infield parking (For the most part), most of the festival/in field seating if you will and well a LOT of the 'stuff' that the 500 was NOTORIOUS for including the night before/pre-race drunken bacchanals outside of the track!

The original Snake Pit in turn one was legendary! The police and IMS security wouldn't even go there back in the 60's and 70's.. Drunks, naked people, all manner of debauchery and 'stuff' occurred.... I know because I saw it ALL first hand... Show us your TITS was the typical rallying cry and ANY woman wandering through on her own.... well... that was NOT recommended..

I had the LIFE LONG experience of being able to do four laps around the IMS in a two seat Indy race car a few years ago, at speed. My driver was Davey Hamilton and as I said, it was a LIFE LONG DREAM!

The only way it could have possibly have been ANY better is if I could have been driving!!

While Hamilton was SUPPOSED to keep us below 195mph, I asked him afterwards, how fast we had been going and he told me that on laps 2 and 3, going into turn #3, we hit 205+...

The G-forces I experienced where incredible and after, I had a new found respect for what those drivers go through for 500 miles my friends.

OK, back to racing for a sec. Last night, Mona comes running downstairs at about 10:30pm all freaked out. There's a rather strange sound outside/back. She has NO idea what it is... I hear it and go out on the back patio and listen for a few secs before I realize exactly what i'm hearing..

By golly, that's the sound of SPRINT CARS running at the Indiana State Fair grounds, mile oval track MILES away from us!! It's the Hoosier Hundred!! A yearly race that been held here since 1953!

It used to be that the Big Dogs of Indy Car racing like A.J. Foyt, Al Unser etc would race on Thurs/Friday night and THEN do the 500 on Sunday but those days are over...
