Hello...

This is just a suggestion for admin.......is it possible to display the location of last login of any user (on his/her page) by IP tracing? ....... just another safeguard against fakers....

some people do travel and might login from different locations from time-to-time.

I would find this to be a bit of an intrusion to privacy. I don't want my location published, just because someone thinks I might be faking. I know the Admin can tell where we are sending from, but he should not be providing information about it publicly. If someone wants to know where I am....ask me and I will tell you if I feel comfortable about it.

And another thing...who cares about fakers...you are not going to stop them...just ignore them and they might go away.

I agree with my friend MoeJoe, i don't want my IP published. I give out as much info as I want to.

Having dealt with IP #s as an admin of a political BB, I can attest that geolocation is NOT always reliable. This is especially so if the person is connecting to the Net by a national ISP such as Verizon, Comcast, Roadrunner, AT&T, etcetera. In such cases, the IP #s often resolve to the companies' corporate network offices.

I have only two options here: dialup and satellite. Ergo, I connect to the Web via HughesNet through a dish in my front yard. My IP #'s address traces to HughesNet's eastern NOC (Network Operation Center) in Germantown, MD. It's there that my interface with the Net occurs.

Some geolocation sites use a database of accumulated info on physical locations associated with IP numbers, but this too is not foolproof. E.g., HughesNet in most cases assigns IP #s dynamically at logon, ergo I won't have the same one twice except by pure coincidence. If the database records my present IP# at my location, tomorrow the # could be assigned to a HN customer in NY or KY or FL.

Fixed IP #s are easier to geolocate, but they're not 100% accurate.

Lastly, folks who choose to connect through anonymizer services can't be located by any standard method.

I don't think it's necessary to display IP numbers as it's too intrusive and may put people off posting on here.
If people use strong enough passwords, and clear their browsing history on exit, then nobody's going to get into their account.
If people are using multiple ID's to cause trouble, it should be possible for Admin to block their IP.

Individual IP #s or blocks of them can be disallowed. In the former case, if the ISP assigns IP #s dynamically, the offender will have a different one at the next login. Banning blocks of numbers would more likely stop the baddies, but it would also lock out legitimate users.

It's a question of how much is too much.

Big Brother in the private world, no thanks. If you feel someone is a 'faker', then act accordingly on your own.
