This is a TRUE story that happened at least fifteen years ago. I was formerly a honey beekeeper and
had six hives for about seven years (1973-1980), so I always notice when I see bees buzzing around.

It was a late spring day. I was fabricating a metal staircase frame just outside of my garage door
(in the backyard). I was using 10"X2" channel-iron for the side rails and 2"X2" angle-iron clips to
hold 4" X 12" wood steps. It's heavy duty and VERY durable! After I finished all the welding, I took
the frame and had it Hot-Dipped galvanized before installing it.

As I was busy, I happened to notice what appeared to be a mouse in its last dying contortions... on
the sidewalk. From a distance, I concluded that it must have eaten some poison and was going to die
right there on my sidewalk. As I approached it, it turned out not to be a dying mouse, but THREE drone
(male) honeybees gangbanging a young Queen bee, who had just swarmed from a nearby hive!

Once the first drone shot his wad, he immediately died! He had completed his life's mission! Then the
second drone commenced his breeding conquest and promptly died as soon as he shot his wad and
completed his life's mission. Then the third drone followed suit, and he croaked as soon as he shot
his wad and completed his life's mission. That's how it is in the honeybee world!

Once the fuck-fest was over, the young, impregnated Queen bee flew away, followed by a small group of
female worker bees. They must have been hanging around nearby watching and waiting for the orgy to be
over with. Normally, the honeybee mating process takes place in the air, not on the ground!

I have always regretted that I did not even think about going to get a camera and recording the event!

P.S. I swept the dead drones off to the side of the sidewalk where I knew the ants would find them and
use them for food for their larvae.
