I am shocked. I didn't realize he was battling stomach cancer. He was just 62. A big country star.

I read about his death. Another from pancreatic cancer. Shaft was a groundbreaking movie embraced by all audiences.

They say this cat Shaft is a bad mother...
(Shut your mouth)
I'm talkin' 'bout Shaft
(Then we can dig it)

Wow, Pet is 90. I first knew her via her big hits like Downtown then seeing her in movies like Goodbye Mr Chips with Peter O'Toole. Before she was a pop star, she was a teen actress and I have seen her in old movies.

Fine movie. It was a remake of Kurosawa's Japanese classic "The Seven Samurai" which in turn was Kurosawa's tribute to the influence of John Ford.

Uncle Miltie!

That film had a great title song sung by Gene Pitney.

Alan Hale Jr. was the son of Alan Hale who frequently co-starred with Errol Flynn in westerns and famously as Friar Tuck in "The Adventures of Robin Hood."

By buchanan 26,Aug,22 13:13
Let's not forget Shirley Jones starred in two other classic musicals, "Carousel" and "The Music Man."

By buchanan 26,Aug,22 13:12
How about "Calamity Jane" starring Doris Day from 1953?

By buchanan 26,Aug,22 13:10
Weill, "Oklahoma" really isn't a western in the traditional sense. Still a great musical.

By buchanan 26,Aug,22 13:09
"Shane" is a classic for sure. How about "High Noon" and "Once Upon a Time in the West"?

By buchanan 24,Aug,22 16:06
A good one they would never make today as it had one of Clint's highest body counts! Too many blazing guns for today.

By buchanan 24,Aug,22 16:03
I am currently watching "The Fugitive" being shown on ME-TV.

By buchanan 24,Aug,22 16:03
I read that "Justified" is being revived and coming back.

Sitting around the campfire again?

Johnny Mack Brown was a top western star in the 30s.

Melody Patterson

"The Guns of Will Sonnett" was a late 60s show I watched as a kid. Starred Walter Brennan.

By buchanan 23,Aug,22 10:47
"Deadwood" was an HBO series in the mid-2000s. A muddy dirty more realistic western with a strong cast. Worth checking out.

By buchanan 23,Aug,22 10:45
Really? "F Troop" was a western sitcom in the mid 60s starring Ken Berry, Forrest Tucker and Larry Storch.

By buchanan 23,Aug,22 10:43
Adam (Pernell Roberts) was the most serious brother and Roberts chose to leave the series early as he grew tired of it. Maybe was frustrated being serious and dealing with the more comedic Hoss and Little Joe.

By buchanan 23,Aug,22 10:41
I have been watching "Laramie" which is shown on Grit TV.

By buchanan 22,Aug,22 01:12
That's a great one!

You can't beat Clint as The Man With No Name.

By buchanan 21,Aug,22 11:00
I love the old TV westerns and consider Gunsmoke the greatest, Then Wagon Train and Rawhide. The Virginian had a sweeping theme.

I have watched 100s of western movies and so many classics to choose form. How about The Searchers and Red River?

By buchanan 21,Aug,22 10:57
I consider Rawhide the greatest western TV series theme. Don't forget the Ballad of Palladin from Have Gun Will Travel.

By buchanan 21,Aug,22 10:55
Bonanza was more of a light "western" not being as serious and rugged as westerns of the same era. Hoss was little more than a big clown.

By buchanan 21,Aug,22 10:53
Branded starred Chuck Connors as a court martialed soldier stripped of buttons and epaulettes and his sword is snapped in two.

By buchanan 21,Aug,22 10:51
It was a sign of respect because Stanwyck was already a legendary movie star actress and revered within the industry.
