The deepest I've gone with anything is 5 1/2 inches with the ear piece of a pair of glasses that did not have a bend in them. The shortest I've done & had a great feeling is about 1 1/2 inches that is the sharpie. Hope this helps, you just kinda gotta try it to see if you like it.
