Only people of a certain age will remember the one and only Connie Francis who has left us at the age of 87 and whose real name was Concetta Rosa Maria Franconero. I've been listening to her since childhood, she was one of the finest singers of her generation having two consecutive number 1s in 1958 with her update of an old standard "Who's Sorry Now?" and the Neil Sedaka song "Stupid Cupid" and then "Lipstick On Your Collar" in 1959 and "Where the Boys Are" (another Neil Sedaka song) in 1960 and several other hits before the Beatles came along and changed everything. But Connie turned resourcefully to recording more standards, e.g. "Love Is A Many Splendoured Thing", "My Foolish Heart" and "Somewhere My Love" for which her divine voice that tugged at the heartstrings was perfect for songs like those. I have them on a vinyl LP of Connie's I have had in my record collection for years. I know none of us are immortal but nevertheless I am REALLY upset to hear this news, like Doris Day she was part of my formative years and I feel very sad right now. R.I.P. Connie
Thank you SO MUCH for your comment, yes indeed a beautiful lady with a beautiful voice but a sad life. Though its best not to dwell on that and remember Connie for the singer she was who brought so much pleasure to so many people with her singing and fine choice of songs. I'm sorry now too.
That guy that raped her was never caught. I wish he had been and that he was strung up by the balls and his severed cock stuck in his mouth with a sign hung over his head, “Who’s Sorry Now!”
I fully concur with your sentiments Routemaster. Connie Francis and Bobby Darin were my favourite singers back in the late 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. She will be sadly missed by millions of people of our generation. Recently her song “Pretty Little Baby” has enjoyed great success on TikTok and YouTube. Just 2 weeks ago she was quoted as not remembering her recording of it. She had to play it to bring back her memory of it.
Thank you SO MUCH too, my friend, Bobby Darin was another great favourite of mine too who left us at the tragically young age of 37 and, unbelievably, that was way back in 1973. I don't follow TikTok so didn't know that Connie's "Pretty Little Baby" had achieved great success there. Its a catchy song that Connie recorded in 1962. As well as her firm favourites "Who's Sorry Now?", "Stupid Cupid", "Lipstick On Your Collar" and "Where the Boys Are", other faves of mine include "My Happiness" and "Everybody's Somebody's Fool" and her recordings of those great standards I mentioned are absolute knockouts and can all be heard on youtube.
