I think the term originated in the army when soldiers were in the jungle and it was easier and cooler to dispense with underwear

I think you are right. Though I've never been in the military myself, I have had intimate encounters with gentleman who were. When fighting in tropical settings they were instructed to not wear underpants, especially briefs. Snug fitting undergarments got sweaty and caused fungal growths.

Related to this, a lot of soldiers in WW2 were circumcised prior to being sent to fight in the desert or jungle to avoid foreskin problems; this may also have been the case with Vietnam.

Well I've had none. I make sure I pull it back each time I shower and clean the area. Mine is not tight so it rolls back quite easily and stays back unless I'm "lubed" up quite well.

The only problem I had was in my early years when many women never had seen a foreskin and thought it was gross. Such is life.

I personally wear underwear because some type of jeans can be irritating. I knew a girl who never wore underwear.
