Do you have any favourite quotes/sayings/clichés or maybe even a motto you live by?
Something that just makes you giggle or makes no sense when you really think about it.
"One swallow doesn't make a summer
You made your bed now you have to lay in it"
Listening to SiriusXM and heard Devil With A Blue Dress a great song which was something that Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels released a hundred years ago. In that song there's a phrase, "she's a real humdinger and I like it like that!"
HUMDINGER, a funny sounding word, something that I've heard over the years. I'm curious if this word is used all over the world?
While watching Downton Abbey, the new Mrs. Carson prepared her groom a dish she called "bubble and squeak". I THOUGHT I had squeak nailed but when I Google'd bubble and squeak, I was surprised. Any idea why the dish is named as such?
As I understood Google's explanation, a bubble and squeak is leftover vegetables with potatoes and the dish includes eggs, probably used as a binder. Here, we might refer to that dish as a frittata.
Bubble and squeak was traditionally mashed potatoes and cabbage fried in a pan with butter/oil,next to the fire, and it would bubble and squeak when it was done.
It's now root vegetables/potatoes fried in a pan with oil/butter.No eggs to bind the mixture...maybe a fried/poached egg on top though...yum...

Growing up, a older relative used to occasionally say,”fuck a wild man”. Used as a term of bewilderment or frustration, it wasn’t till years later I found it definitely unique and interesting. Still curious about the origin, butt use it often hoping someone asks for further details!
