I never thought I would see the day that members would view and vote 8 of razzle4's pictures to the Main page. It seems like only yesterday that members were bitchin' about razzle4 flooding the banner with his pictures. Their complaint was that they spent 100 points to get 1 of their pictures on the banner and he often spent 300 to 500 points plus, to upload his. They felt razzle4's upload knocked their pictures off prematurely.

Those of you in the UK may have noticed that a new programme on BBC Radio 2 called "Sounds of the 50s" started last week. Really good music but so far the programme has been VERY American, I am hoping some of the great British singers of those days will be featured too. Nothing against American singers and groups, I LOVE them, but it is a bit American biased at the moment. Having said that, it was great last week to hear two late American greats, lovely Eddie Cochran and "Summertime Blues" from 1958 and Johnnie Ray and "Just Walking In The Rain" from 1956. My late dad bought that on a 78 r.p.m. And last night, oh joy! On came The Platters and "Only You" from 1955, a full sixty years old now and still sounds divine after all these decades. LOVE it although my number one favourite of The Platters is their glorious 1959 update of the great Oscar Hammerstein/Jerome Kern song "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" which was first heard in the Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers film "Roberta", sung by Irene Dunne, way back in 1936. And before you ask, no I wasn't around then but I've seen that film on t.v. and a few years ago at the National Film Theatre.

If its any consolation, Bella, my **** pattern is arse about face too. I bounce around wide awake at 3 a.m. and then feel like going to bed at 2 in the afternoon. My favorite doll was Madame Alexander dolls. They were jointed at the knee and I think at the elbow. They were more of a doll to admire rather than play with. They all seemed to be beautifully dressed and were very expensive. After much begging, my parents finally caved in and bought me a Madame Alexander doll that was their rendition of Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. She was beautiful and I played with her and broke her at the knee joint. I have her somewhere, maybe one day I will take her to a doll hospital and have her repaired.

I have 2 nephews that were most interested in video games so there was no need to hunt for dolls. As I said, based on the price, the Madame Alexander dolls were more of a doll to admire rather than to play with and were kept in glass display cases at Hudson's. Their dresses were elaborate and as I recall, they all had the same cherubic face.

Our youngest daughter loved loved loved dolls when she was small and when it was time for her to move on from that phase, she gave most of them to a shelter but I kept a few of her favorites (without her knowing) to give to her on her wedding day! I can't afford to be pointing fingers at anyone who has a messy room or house in pictures because mine looks like a tornado tore through it....ohhh dear me...and I =have= seen a few pictures (not on this site, on other sites though) where it looks like they fed their pictures into the free Paint program that comes with Windows or some program, and airbrushed the backgrounds out! Covered up their messy desk or the tiles in their shower with the airbrush/spray painting features in the program with opaque white or grey computer paint.
