Today is my birthday! Unlike many adults who dread growing older, I count down to my birthdays every month. The first six were a horror (long story covered in my now-published poetry book!), and with my illnesses, I've learned how important it is to live life full tilt and treasure every moment. So I want to grow old!

Also, I was conceived through r a p e, but I am a c h i l d of God.

I will not be sleeping tonight as I have to "get up" in a few hours to get ready for my day. I'm having a spinal procedure. May not sound like a great thing for a birthday, but I fought for this for almost a year. It will be an amazing gift!

This is Labor Day weekend in the States and is the official end of our summer. This weekend is filled with many parties, barbecues, festivals and fairs. In my little town, there is the annual art fair held in our downtown park that overlooks the St. Clair River, several scattered islands and our neighbor, Canada. Beautiful weather a beautiful day and a beautiful end to the summer.

What do you mean, happy Labor Day to all that celebrate? Are you referring to those that work in the service industry, ie the police, firefighters, hospital workers, those in the hospitality industry and the dreaded retail industry that might be open 24/7/365?

Yes, 'Labour Day' or its equivalent is apparently celebrated in 80 countries, but virtually all of them except the USA and Canada celebrate it on May 1, and usually as 'May Day' or some kind of 'international workers day'.

We don't have Labour Day over here, we get Bank Holidays instead and the last one before Christmas was the August Bank Holiday, a week before USA's Labour Day. And, typically, right in the middle of a long hot summer, it pissed down ALL day - that's Britain's weather for you, it kind of seems to know when there is a public holiday
