what this actually justifies in President Biden's view is the fact that we need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, on oil in general ... and we need to look at other ways of having energy in our country and others."

I mean "really"? Sheesh, our economy is already on the brink of collapse and this bunch does not want to tap into our OWN resources to prevent it from doing that? Damn democrats.

Funny I found this old post. You were asking Biden to tap into the reserves.
Now he's doing it, weren't you concerned about that too? Yes, you were.

And for sure Republican politicians and their propaganda media flip-flopped on this.

I'm not saying flip-flopping is purely a right-wing phenomena, but it's more ingrained.
Do you even realize you are doing it or are you just copying what you hear from the
right-wing news outlets?

enhancing oil production means pumping more oil out of the well.not removing oil from our reserves.

So your own resources are not your reserves, right.
Biden did what you want him to, for pumping more oil out of the wells. He approved more new oil drilling permits than Trump did. The oil industry has 9,137 permits to drill now. They could be drilling right now, yesterday, last week, last year, but the president cannot force private companies to start drilling. He asked them nicely though. They just don't want to, because they make more money sitting on it. That wouldn't be a problem if your oil companies were state-owned or at least state-controlled, like our NAM.
Other than those permits there should not be much left to drill, unless you really want to destroy your National Parks.

I think this is another narrative. The aim is to generate as much money as possible in the shortest possible time in a ruthless manner, without thinking about whether the expensively sold solution will work out in the end. See the example of electromobility. It goes on until the global realization comes that the same capitalists are at the helm and pulling the strings at the beautified environmental associations and green political parties.

Y2k was a preview of the climate change scandal. Money was made, nothing happened.
By Ananas2xLekker [Ignore] 28,Mar,22 05:05 other posts
Y2K was definitely hyped by the media, but there was some risk involved. It was just prevented by easy updates to critical systems. 'Money was made' by some IT guys doing their jobs.

If you think climate change is 'just a narrative', you are incapable of seeing obvious changes. It's not supposed to be 121 F in Canada.

NOW the aim is to generate as much money as possible in the shortest possible time in a ruthless manner, that's TRUE. The world is trying to change in a hurry NOW, because no one did anything the PAST 30 YEARS. NOW we are in a hurry to change fast or humanity is FUCKED.

You worry about the costs of renewable energy investments? Better worry about the increasing costs of climate change induced disasters. Hurricanes, droughts, wild fires and floods will take turns destroying homes, cities, harvests and lives. In 2020 extreme weather cost the US taxpayer $99 billion. The costs were already on the rise for a while,
but it will be more each year.

By Ananas2xLekker [Ignore] 28,Mar,22 15:40 other posts
You used that argument so many times. The earth has been a snowball 640 million years ago and very warm between 500 million and 250 million years ago. Some of those periods caused the extinction of 99% of all species. It happened then because nature was still unstable. 640 million years ago life was still very primitive. Even 250 million years ago the circle of life was different than now. The oil reserves are from that time, because all the sea creatures that died were not consumed by micro-organisms. That type of micro-organisms hadn't evolved yet. The last millions of years, life has become more stable and resilient. But humanity has already destroyed a huge part of it.

It's possible dramatic climate change happens naturally again, but then the climate will change slowly over thousands of years, like it did before. There probably is a natural change ongoing at this moment, because a few hundred years ago it was a lot colder. But never were changes as extreme and as fast as we see the last decades, except when they were caused by a catastrophe. If we get hit by a massive asteroid or huge volcano eruption, then we are also fucked. But that only happens every few millions of years. It would be as unlucky as getting hit by lightning.

Humanity is now causing our own climate catastrophe and it's possible that again 99% of all species go extinct. When that happens, it's possible that humans are among the 1% of species that survives, but most likely also in numbers of around 1%. That will probably not happen in the next hundred years, but life will get very uncomfortable a long time before the massive extinction starts.

Here is a video that describes the cause for the climate changing in the Paleozoic Era. It's a general video about the History of the Earth, without any motives of explaining climate change. It's just what science has discovered about that period and changing climate has been a big factor in previous extinction periods.

only registered users can see external links

"The colonization of land by vascular plants had a large impact on the climate by absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere, which cooled the earth so much that it caused a mass extinction event." It's one of the examples of primitive nature not having a natural balance (homeostasis) yet and changing the climate by itself. Nature has only achieved a remarkable stable balance and a strong ability to recover from geological disasters up to as recent as tens of millions of years ago.

The last tens of millions of years, there also were cold and warm periods, but they were caused by geological influences and disasters, like a meteor, volcanoes, changes in the earth's tilt, changes in the earth's orbit round the sun and plate tectonics. Those causes for the climate changing were either instant (in case of a disaster) or very slow, over thousands to millions of years. Man made climate change is a disaster, because it happens in a geological blink of an eye and has the potential to become one of the worst extinction periods in hundreds of millions of years, because we have also destroyed a big part of nature and thereby it's ability to recover.

The earth is older and more unstable now than ever.
The sun is getting hotter,we just had a "solar storm" last week.
Nothing last forever.
By Ananas2xLekker [Ignore] 29,Mar,22 06:31 other posts
The sun is 4.6 billion years old. It has cycles of higher and lower activity,
but it doesn't change significantly and consistently in a few decades.

Astronomers estimate that the Sun's luminosity will increase by about 6% every billion years. so in the last hundred years, the sun has been getting hotter by 0.0000006%, while the average surface temperature of the Earth has increased by about 1.0°F. That sounds like nothing, but it takes a staggering amount of energy to warm up the whole earth with 1.0 °F.

However, the CO2 concentration has been rising with 35% the last 100 years.
CO2 traps heat. Without CO2 in the air, the global average temperature would be 10°F lower. Humanity is emitting CO2 in the atmosphere at a level of 20 times more than all the wildfires in 2021 and has cut down 50% of all the trees in the world. That's why the temperature of the earth has been rising.

Sun activity is part of the science of climate change. It has been ruled out as the cause. The chance that man made CO2 is not the cause of this period of climate change is 1 in 1,000,000. Are you willing to do a round of Russian roulette, with a cylinder with 999,999 bullets and one empty chamber?

Nothing happened because we fixed everything before it blew up.
By Ananas2xLekker [Ignore] 07,Apr,22 04:40 other posts
Exactly. It wasn't that difficult, just add a few bytes before every date.

We also mostly fixed the ozone layer depletion. It just took a global transition from chlorofluorocarbons and halons to alternatives.

Humanity is capable of combating climate change, before it gets utterly destructive.
It's a bit more difficult, especially with fossil fuel companies and people who believe their lies working against the effort, but will humanity just sit, suffer and die, because..... Why, actually?

Oh, sure, I forgot, free enterprise will save the day. The owners are lying to us now,
but they will wise up and save us all........... Any day now.

It's happening. Nearly all actual scientists acknowledge this fact.
By phart [Ignore] 06,Apr,22 21:27 other posts
had those same scientist been around back millions of years ago they would have been able to indicate change in the climate as well.
It has been changing for millions of years.
All good things come to a end. the earth could be like a toilet. When flushed the crap moves around and around in a circle and then as it heads down the chute it goes faster and faster until it is GONE> Perhaps we are the turd in the galaxy going round and round the bowl?
By Ananas2xLekker [Ignore] 07,Apr,22 04:11 other posts
They would have and at one time concluded it was a natural change (because nature didn't have much of a balance yet) or at another time that it was caused by that big asteroid that killed almost everyone or at another time because that huge volcano erupted.

Now they are absolutely sure it's caused by the 375 billion tonnes of carbon, that humans have emitted into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide and the 50% of forests that humans cut down.

But back then they didn't have fossil fuel companies paying the media to lie to people and paying politicians to do nothing.

To bad, humanity could have flourished for another billion or two years.
Humans probably are crap that needs flushing, if we commit suicide over oil.
Too bad we pull so much down with us.

It is real. All of the predictions are coming true. On the bright side, it can help us lead to energy independence by focusing on renewables and this march of new technology will be the next economic opportunity for those countries and businesses that focus on it.
By Ananas2xLekker [Ignore] 28,Mar,22 06:31 other posts
Exactly! People worried about their taxes don't understand money.
Oil and gas costs trillions to get out of the ground and when it's used it's gone and turned into CO2 and pollution.
If we used only a part of that fossil fuel money to INVEST in renewable energy,
the last decades, we would have hardly needed fossil fuels by now.
And if the government had INVESTED tax money in renewable energy, instead of
GIVING AWAY money as subsidies to the fossil fuel industry, those investments would
turn into government INCOME to reduce the deficit and the debt.

Poland and Lithuania now no longer rely on Russian gas because they can import supplies from as far away as Australia.

None of this current Russian energy stranglehold over Europe was necessary.

Paradoxically, although Europe’s gas reserves are smaller than Russia’s, they may have as much technically recoverable shale gas as the U.S. which their governments won’t allow to be developed.

So europe won't tap into it's own gas supplys, for climate change reasons, but doesn't mind depending on a COMMUNIST country for it??? UH FOLKS what are they smokeing over there?
After inexplicably cancelling the U.S.- Canadian Keystone XL pipeline during his first day in office, Joe Biden also subsequently lifted Trump administration sanctions on Nord Stream 2.

Skyrocketing U.S. pump prices and plummeting poll numbers attributed in large part to Democrat anti-drilling policies have since incentivized President Biden to pathetically plead with OPEC and Russia to produce more oil."

IF our pipeline had been allowed to be finished,we could have sent fuel supplys to europe in a time of need.BUT NO, let's beg the communist we are supposed to hate for more oil> DUH

Just FYI, Russia is not communist. That ended in 1991.

True, we could have had enough renewable energy already.
Wind and solar are MUCH cheaper than oil and gas now.
By phart [Ignore] 28,Mar,22 09:27 other posts
I beg to differ in that I don't think it is cheaper in the long term as the life span of the equipment is not long enough to offset it's cost.
let the free market work on this issue, change can happen in the long term.
I was coming home yesterday and saw the first Rivian truck on the interstate .Aqua color, and that thing would MOVE! quick!
By Ananas2xLekker [Ignore] 28,Mar,22 14:41 other posts
It's not a free market when the government gives billions in subsidies to fossil fuel companies and the politicians who decide what the government invests in are personally making money of the fossil fuel industry.

What you think off as a free market is a pipe dream. The FED has bought $8.96 trillion in bonds and Mortgage-Backed Securities from banks and big companies. They could decide to buy a trillion worth of wind and solar and make much more money from that.
It would create tens of thousands of good paying jobs in the energy sector, stimulate the economy and make the world less dependent on oil, instead of what they do now, keeping the stock market and the house prices high.

Dispite all the "sanctions" and punishment that North korea is under, they still have the tech and abilty to make massive weapons that could kill 10's of 1000's of people.

Off course 'we' worry about all the horrible dictators killing or creating the power to kill thousands or millions or billions of people. 'We' are just capable of seeing risk in the short term AND the long term.

You worry about North Korea having the ability to kill 10's of 1000's of people?
The USA and Russia already have the ability to kill EVERYONE!!
We can only hope that neither Biden or Putin 'pushes the button' (first).

When I worry about climate change, I tell you there are SOLUTIONS!
What are your SOLUTIONS for North Korea?

A million US citizens just died of COVID-19. You didn't do shit about that.
In the future, more viruses will come and then you won't do anything either.

But, how sad will it be, when world leaders are 'wise' enough to not kill millions in wars
and then within a few decades, hundreds of millions of people still die of climate change induced catastrophes and hunger caused by destroyed harvests.

Not really a long term investment, I agree.
However, the sea level is expected to rise with about 40 cm (1 foot 3 inches) by 2050.
He will be 89 by then. The sea will only start to rise significantly around 2100.
The projected worst case is +2.9 m (9.5 feet). It's only when the climate really gets out of hand, the next few hundred years after that, when the sea can rise to about at maximum +44 m (144 feet). That's when even the Dutch cannot control it with dikes anymore.

It's still too close to the ocean. A nasty storm, during spring tide and his house is gone.
If I was him, I would worry more about hurricanes. He is right to pick a northern state
on the cost, just not so close to it. The southern states like New Mexico, Arizona and Texas will be dangerously hot in the summer, within decades. If they have power shortages in the summer, lots of people will die from heat stroke.

I think so too. Maybe he had a chance if he asked for that $1000 to help the victims of the tornadoes, but he asked for that money 'to stay on the air'.

I'm sure there are televangelists who ask for money for the victims, but how many
of them would actually send every cent to the victims? Not this guy, I'm sure of it, because he's a convicted fraudster.

True, if either the US, your allies or your enemies starts nuclear war, it's all over in
a few minutes. Maybe some assholes in a bunker can wait a few hundred years,
but the rest of us all die. I don't think climate change can be that destructive, but
it will come close. It will take a lot longer than nuclear war too, at least several decades. You and I probably won't see the worst of it. Still, those tornadoes and hurricanes are just the start. In a few years, you will see them every year and get worse. Maybe we will get them in Europe too. Nice addition to the floods, the droughts, the wildfires and the mass migration.

It really sounds like the end times, but it actually is still preventable.
That televangelist just lies to you that it isn't, because he gets money for that
and he is an old fuck anyway.
