We can't turn back the tide so we are 'going to hell in a handcart. The ability of courts and other organisations to act sensibly has been repeatedly constrained by more and more resrictive legislation that defies common sense. Common sense says that if one person can't work within a particular environment for whatever reason you support them in finding a suitable alternative environment to work in, you do not punish everyone else.
I really do find the smell of smoking and smokers very unpleasant but this ruling and the compensation you mention is crazy. If they have passed the legislation to accomodate her allergy why does she get compensation AS WELL?

There is a lot of confusion about those terms.

Very crudely:

When government regulates every aspect of people's lives, redistributes wealth for "the common good" and owns all property except may be personal possessions - it's called socialism.

When government regulates every aspect of people's lives and businesses which are still allowed to be privately owned nominally and redistributes wealth for "the common good" - it's usually called fascism.

There are also mixed forms when both private ownership is allowed but big enterprises are government-owned, or something like that, but that's not really important. Important part is that in all those regimes big government controls everything.

Hence your confusion. In several past decades governments all over the world were becoming more and more big and powerful and were getting more and more control over people's lives and businesses. So now you can't really tell what's the difference between "socialism" and "capitalism", because you are talking "apples and oranges" here. In fact you have different degrees of socialism and fascism and they are not so different.

Capitalism is not so much a political concept as an economic principle. It can be combined with many different political agendas. And those are what matters, not capitalism itself.
