Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has extended COVID restrictions through mid January. Actually the earliest sunset would have been around about Dec 7 would you believe lol. Its a later sunrise that makes the day shortest. But it is indeed still the Winter Solstice and thus our shortest day in the Northern Hemisphere
