cars don't float folks. That tropical storm brought alot of rain to our area and as usual someone tryed to float their Toyota,it didn't work out.
We are about to spend roughly 50,000 dollars on a boat and such to rescue people from flood waters in our district. our local fire departement does more water rescues that working fires each year.Since so many out of state folks have been moving in our area,the situation is getting much worse. Cars don't float folks.

STOP! You are making that up! I live in a small town however, there is another fire department in a different city about 3 miles north. My town's fire department also services another township about 8 miles south of us and there's also a U.S. Coast Guard hub here, too.

Living in a small town/water community, our department has the equipment it needs. I've never known them to need to borrow things from the residents. Heck, they even have some device to hover above thin ice in order to do winter water rescues.

Our department has a tiny inflatable but it is not good in swift water.We have to call Charlotte's water rescue and that cost a man his life in May because it took them almost 45 minutes to get here.some of the fireman that were on the call watched the guy in the mercedes float away and sink and have had some trouble coping with it. So we are looking to buy equal equipment to what comes when we call or better to try to prevent it from happening again.
I see no issue with borrowing a boat.Citizens have always been there if needed.Even though I am not a fireman anymore,i still clear trees from roads and such if need be.

Our old 71 ford is in the mountains of virgina being used to this day.They rebuilt the pump and it is their front line truck.Another truck we sold went out to the midwest.They have a pole barn on rented land to keep it in.We sent all the old hose and equipment we didn't need with them and cut the price to cover the cost of fuel.The guys paid thier own way out here to get the truck to drive it back.

100 years ago, I dated a Detroit Fire Department fireman and as far as their rigs appearance, that beast was washed every single day! They kept it squeaky clean and sparkling!

They do keep them squeaking clean and in great condition the bunker hill fire company don’t get many calls there is less than a handful of houses mostly they are called when the mountain is on fire 🔥

We used to maintain our own equipment back years ago.And in the early 2000's some departements got sued because of a equipment failure slowed response times. Departement did their own maintance and the courts faulted them.So now the guys can't do much more than call the mechanics at 150 bucks a hour to come out and change light bulbs and oil.
Shame really.
Apparently each state has it's own idea of requirements as pumps have to meet certian pressures for a period of time and if it fails it has to be repaired or replaced.
EXSPENSIVE.
of course,our last new truck was 400,000 bucks!

Alex Trebek, Jeopardy game show host for 35 years, died at home today. Trebek announced in early 2019, that he had pancreatic cancer. He continued to host Jeopardy and managed to keep an upbeat attitude. He pledged he would fight this cancer because he still had 3 years left in his contract. Mr. Trebek was Canadian, a humanitarian and was 80 years old at the time of his death.

I Google'd because I was curious about when he taped his last episode of Jeopardy. This is what I found;
