Data is valuable and the more data a company has on you the more valuable you are to them.

Today I saw on the news that Amazon wants to get into the home insurance business. One of the pundits opined that it's not for the cash value but the data. Amazon is in the data business, just like Google. He further stated that 2/3 of Americans have Amazon Prime and if you add all of your financial data to your shopping habits they will target items within your financial limit but at the high end of your limit so they could maximize profit.

I don't want their company's hardware sitting in my living room listening to my every word (data). Suppose I said to a visiting guest, my spouse and on the phone that I was thinking about buying a new red Jeep. How long do you think it would take before Jeep advertising started showing up on my Facebook, Outlook and other sites that I use? Probably just a day or two.

Could the police give Amazon a warrant to listen to you?

What if you were having a party and went to the washroom and one of your guests said "Order 500 pounds of potatoes" or "order every open cart" or whatever else could be done by your "friends".

I totally agree with you. I think that people are walking headlong into huge invasion of privacy issues without realisng what they are doing. These devices are listening to you 24/7 and there have already been some very strange things happen as a result of Alexa believing that she had been given an instruction when she hadn't been. That is before we even start on the issue of hacking.

Does anyone still rent movies and do you rent the movie from a brick & mortar store? I ask this simply because there no longer are video stores in my area. Heck, even those Red Box rentals seem to be a thing of the past because I do not see any of those boxes outside of grocery stores or pharmacies.

I use the redbox quite often... Around here, they seem to mainly be at Walmarts and pharmacies... I do a lot of renting online too though through Vudu. I have T-Mobile, so I get rental codes for the redbox or vudu multiple times each month...

Until a few months ago I regulalrly rented movies by post - by monthly direct debit - from an Amazon dept called Lovefilm. That was brilliant, you could get virtually any film and I could have 3 films at a time and as soon as I returned one another from my wanted list was dispatched immediately. Totally totally brilliant.

Sadly this offshoot was closed down as according to Amazon's explanation very few people were actually using this and prefering to view online. Very sad as the online film menu is much more limited and to watch the number of films that i was watching would cost me far more to watch online than my monthly subscription to Love film. You don't suppose that was a facor in their decision do you?

The last one asked for a specific photo. We entered a pic that matched the title. We got booted. So we entered a second pic and was booted again. But what I think, is that the member thinks if she is the only pic in the contest she wins. Maybe they are not realizing if they don't have 5 entries the contest goes POOF. Cause as of now she is still the only entry in her own contest.

I've noticed that many free image entries can't get the minimum # of entries. I've been adding a pic if there's four entries and there's little time left. I don't expect to win. I look at it this way. At least the other entries will get a vote (hopefully). It only costs 15 points and it's something I can do to help. If someone else feels the same,,,,,,well.
