Just an f.y.i., I am the Union Steward for his shop and his boss is unreasonable! Have you heard the phrase "lunch hour"? Well that's because an HOUR is twice as long as a 30 minute lunch. I'm going to demand on an HOUR but will agree to 45 minutes plus an additional 5 minutes travel time.

The truth is that Lincoln had to do things like that to ensure that he could hold the country together once the Civil war was over. If he had pushed the civil liberties that many would have liked, such as totally banning owning slaves the Union would not have held. He was being realistic and moving slowly.
